Free $10: Register for Amex Small Business Saturday

Small Business logoAmerican Express just opened registration today, Sunday 11/24, for their annual Small Business Saturday promotion where they offer a free $10 statement credit for all Amex cardholders who spend at least $10 at a qualifying small business merchant on Saturday 11/30.  You can read all the terms on the Amex site, but it essentially operates this way:

  • First, register your American Express card here.  This takes one minute and all your need is your name, email address and credit card number.  This does not lock you into anything, it just enables you to take part in the free program, so if you have an Amex card, register now as the spots are limited.
  • Shop in person (online transactions don’t count) on Saturday November 30th at a small business registered as part of Amex’s program.  See the list here.
  • Spend at least $10 in one transaction at a qualifying small business in order to qualify for the statement credit.
  • Amex will apply a $10 statement credit to your account within 90 days.   (last year we received our credits within 10 days)

Small Business Saturday

This really is free money, and it helps to support your favorite local small business, so we highly recommend you register!  This really is a great promotion run by Amex as they are giving away millions of free dollars and helping local communities.

You can register each Amex card in your wallet to receive the $10 credit.  For instance, we have five different Amex accounts (since we maximize our travel rewards; learn how with our free travel rewards coaching program) and Laura and I each have a card on all five accounts for a total of ten cards.  We registered ten cards for small business Saturday, so this gives us $100 free to spend on 11/30!  It’ll be somewhat time-consuming to check out ten distinct times for ten qualifying transactions, but it’s well worth it to get $100 free.

That is just great! An extra $10 for free that does not lock you into anything save to spend at least $10 on the 30th? I’d say that is an amazing offer.

Definitely is! Hard to beat free money and a nice reason to shop locally on the 30th…

I registered our Amex’s yesterday! Kindof disappointed since I thought it was $25 last year… but hey, free $10!

I know, I was really hoping it was going to be $25 again, especially now that we have 10 Amex cards! It sure would have been nice to essentially pay for all our holiday shopping for free this year, but it’s hard to be too annoyed since Amex is giving this money away for a good cause…

Agreed — tough to pass up free money, especially when you’re forced to shop somewhere local to put it to good use.

I got a free $100 once for switching my banking payroll deposits for my job, which was cool. This looks like a nice little bonus.

That $100 sounds great for something that simple; always be on the lookout for stuff like this, because people are always giving away money to entice you to do business with them.

Too bad that they reduced it to $10, but still free $10. I don’t have an Amex card but my wife does. I will probably open an Amex sometime in the future…before the next Small Business Saturday maybe.

Yeah, I was really looking forward to getting $250 free on Small Business Saturday! At the very least you should get a card on your wife’s account that way you each can take advantage of the Small Business Saturday next year. And if you open up your own account you’ll be up to 4 cards.

It’s really a great thing that Amex is doing, and you should take advantage of it…

I love that Amex is sponsoring this “event” and providing an incentive to their cardholders to get out and spend “local”.

Agreed! I’m very impressed with Amex; I know people often have horrible things to say about credit card companies, but this is just a big win in my book…

Thanks for stopping by DC — I’m a fan of your site! I never had an Amex account until about 2 years ago when I started to ‘maximize travel rewards’ and now I have five accounts with them. I’m a huge fan, especially of the Starwood Amex.
If you or anyone else is looking to learn a little more about travel rewards, I’m offering a free travel rewards coaching service; I basically will walk you through from start to finish with planning and executing your first free trip…

Thanks for sharing! I just registered my Amex but I can’t get their Small Business Map to load so I don’t know where to shop. I’ll try again later.

Sure thing — I hope you can get it to work! I just tried with this link and it seems to be loading fine: Small Business Saturday Map

We went out this morning to our favorite local toy store Toys that Teach and ran through our 10 Amex cards; that was a lot of fun!

I participate in this promo every year. Can’t beat a free $10 credit for something you’d be buying anyway. Last year I got free dog food and this year bf had a free Chinese food dinner. He was a happy camper.

It’s amazing, right? Did you see my post on the $25 statement credit if you spent $75 at Amazon? It’s over now, but keep an eye on that for next year!
