Quick Tips: 5th Night Free Using Starwood Preferred Guest Points

SPG Logo(1)As we detailed in the main maximizing travel rewards post, Starwood Preferred Guest points are quite possibly the single most valuable points in the airline and hotel points-earning world.

One of my favorite tips to get even more value out of your points is using their ‘5th Night Free’ promotion that’s available on SPG points redemption awards across category levels 3-7.

How to Take Advantage

So you essentially pay for four nights using your points and the fifth night costs zero points and zero dollars.  Here’s the link to the page detailing the offer and a screenshot:

Starwood Redemptions

As you can see, you get five free nights in a category 3 hotel for 28,000 or five free nights in a category 4 hotel for 40,000 points.   These are real “sweet spots” as you can get amazing luxury hotels such as the Disney Swan in Orlando and the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver in category 4 and Le Meridien hotels in places such as Abu Dhabi and Angkor Cambodia, which are category 3 hotels.

A full list of the Starwood hotels by category can be found here  (use the dropdown box at the top of the screen to switch categories).

As always with SPG redemptions, there are no blackouts at all!  If they have rooms available for cash, then you can use points!

Did you know that there is a short cut to Starwood Gold status with just one stay in Asia-Pacific? We outlined it here:

I did not know that — great tip! I’m not sure I’m going to make it to Asia-Pacific anytime soon, but this is a fantastic piece of information for anyone who will be heading that way…
